Process of machining parts with five axis CNC machining center

The three-axis machining center and four axis machining center used in the market can only process some relatively simple and low precision parts, while the five axis CNC Machining center, as the top equipment in the CNC machine tool industry, can perform multi station machining on parts, with the characteristics of high precision, high efficiency, and high quality. As a highly automated intelligent machining equipment, it is often used in high-end production. The five axis machining center is suitable for machining body parts with free-form surfaces, turbine parts and impellers on airplanes and ships. The five axis machining center can process different sides of the workpiece without changing its orientation on the machine tool through a single clamping process, greatly improving the machining efficiency of the parts.

A five axis CNC machining center has three moving axes, X, Y, and Z, and two freely rotating axes. Compared to traditional three-axis machining centers, the five axis linkage skill of a five axis machining center allows the tool to be positioned and operated in five degrees of freedom when machining complex shaped workpieces.

In fact, most people have a misconception about five axis CNC machining centers, thinking that they are based on three-axis machining centers and add two rotating axes. These two rotation axes first fix the cutting tool in a skewed position, and then move and process it through the feed axes X, Y, and Z. This machining method is actually because the fourth and fifth axes are used to determine the direction of the tool in a fixed orientation, rather than running continuously during the machining process. Therefore, this is not a true five axis linkage skill. A 3+2-axis machining center can meet the machining operations that ordinary machining centers cannot complete, but this is also not a true five axis machining center.

A true five axis CNC machining center has a tool point following function, which can ensure that the cutting point of the tool touches the surface of the part without changing any parameters, preventing cutting pits. During the entire process of path movement, the direction of the tool can be optimized while performing linear motion of the tool. In this way, the optimal cutting state can be maintained throughout the entire process.

The five axis CNC machining center is currently a particularly useful equipment for machining impeller blades, curved surfaces, box bodies, and complex cavities. It also has a significant influence on a country's aerospace, military research, precision instruments, car equipment, high-precision medical equipment, and other fields.
